Scarpa USA 2002 Footwear Catalog

Women's positioning paragraph
Italian artists are renown for their love of the female form, and the bootmakers at Scarpa headquarters in Italy are no exception. Scarpa's lovingly hand-sculpted boots follow the curves of a woman's foot, providing a perfect fit. Yet, there is no need to sacrifice performance for the sake of comfort. Our women's boots are crafted with the highest quality materials, the same as their male counterparts. But they are built from the ground up with a woman's unique structure in mind.

Women's Right to Fit
Few men know how their shoe size translates into women's sizing. Active women, on the other hand, nearly always know their male shoe size because they often have to buy footwear designed for men. But women's feet are not just shorter, daintier versions of men's. They have a different shape entirely.

Below the knees, there are three major physical differences between men and women.
The bulge of a woman's calf muscle tends to start lower on the ankle than a man. The cuffs on Scarpa women's boots, therefore, are cut slightly lower and are exceptionally well padded for comfort around the calf muscle.

Women's feet also tend to be narrower and have a lower overall volume of flesh, muscles and bones. So, Scarpa builds its boots on lasts, or forms, based on a woman's unique shape. The result is less movement inside the boot, greater comfort, and better feel for the trail, rock, ice or snow under your feet.

Separate female lasts have also been created according to the intended purpose of the footwear. For example, the BXD last used for the Women's Delta M3 is designed for spending longer hours on the feet and carrying heavier backpacks, while the ZND last used for the Women's Vento is sculpted for lighter, faster movement in thinner socks.

"The most important thing to remember is that fit is everything," advises Kim Csizmazia, Exum Mountain Guide and World Cup ice climbing champion. "Do not choose a boot that has features that you want over fit because you will always climb or hike better in the boot that fits!"
