Hiking and Mountaineering Boots
Women's
Women's Vento
Vento is Italian for "wind" and this streamlined hiking
boot will make you hike like the wind. The Vento weighs about
three-quarters of a pound less than a traditional leather hiking
boot and the combination fabric and leather upper is lightweight
and airy. The Vento may look like a running shoe, but it's designed
for the rigors of hiking. The anti-microbial midsole offers great
flexibility and keeps stinky microscopic bugs from growing. The
dual-density trekking sole will protect you from sharp trail
debris and withstand loads of abuse without losing traction or
shock absorbtion. Technically, it's suited for tough day hikes;
stylishly, it's suited for all-day wear.
Women's Vento Mid
If you like the idea of the
lightweight Vento, but aren't sure your ankles are strong enough
for a topless boot, the Vento Mid is for you. It has the same
construction as the Vento, plus the added ankle support of a
mid-height boot.
Women's Gore-Tex Vento Mid (available
Fall '01)
Women tend to get cold feet,
and it's not because of that cliché about a woman's prerogitive
to change her mind. Females just have poorer circulation in their
hands and feet. So, just as the weather is getting chilly in
Fall of this year, the Women's Gore-Tex Vento Mid will become
available. It has all the same features as the Vento Mid, with
a waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex liner to keep your little
piggies drier, warmer and happier.
Women's Delta M3
The newest addition to the Scarpa
familia, the Delta M3 bridges the gap between rugged day hikes
and short backpacking trips. The leather in the upper is first
roughed up a bit for a texture that resists scuffing, then dunked
in an HS12 silicone bath for water-resistance, and finally oiled
for a sensuous finish. The Vibram M3 sole has two layers - polyurethane
for cushioning and cleated rubber for superior traction and durability.
While the thick, sturdy leather might take some breaking in,
the E-last lacing system and cushy padding will provide a comfortable
fit, right out of the box. Our women's version comes in a rich
moss tone that says, "I am woman, see me hike."
Women's Delta
For the more traditional type
of hiker, we offer the Delta - a lighter, a more flexible and
affordable version of the Delta M3. The full grain Plata leather
sheds water naturally and has a smooth finish for a classic hiking
boot look. Being slightly thinner than the leather in the Delta
M3, it will take fewer miles to conform to the unique shape of
your foot. And because water comes from both directions while
hiking - inside and out - the Cambrelle lining wicks moisture
away from your feet.
Women's SL M3
Advanced technology and honored
tradition come together in this updated classic backpacking design.
Designed for carrying heavier loads over longer distances and
rougher terrain, the SL M3 features a stiffer, more protective
midsole. The upper is constructed of strong, supportive Sherpa
leather. And we improve on Mama Nature by taking the natural
water repellency of the smooth leather and impregnating it with
an HS 12 silicone treatment. To top it all off, the SL M3 also
has Cambrelle lining and the E-last lacing system for comfort
over the long haul.
Mountain Elite
Mescalito
It's early summer on the North Face of the Grand Teton. Good
thing you're wearing the Mescalito. The Performance Flex midsole
won't make you feel like Frankentstein on the hike in, yet is
stiff enough for easy big wall climbs. Built on a modified climbing
last, the asymmetric fit transfers power to the toes, while sticky
Megabyte rubber is incorporated into the inside edge of the sole
and the toe rand for edging and smearing. On the hike down, you'll
appreciate the other two "densities" in the tri-density
sole - polyurethane for shock absorption and a harder rubber
in the lugged outsole for greater traction and underfoot protection.
If you encounter an unexpected snowfield, don't worry, these
babies are crampon-compatible. We're happy to say the Mescalito
has an identity problem - it can't decide if it wants to be a
three-season alpine shoe or a big-wall rock shoe, so it does
both.
Zodiac
The Zodiac is perfect for hiking
in to the base of the First Flatiron in Boulder, Colorado. That
way, if you realize you left your rock shoes back at the car,
you can just climb the 5.2 route to the top in your approach
shoes. It has the same fit, sole, and technical features as its
big brother the Mescalito (it, too, will accommodate a heel-lever
crampon). But the Zodiac has a lighter, more packable low-cut
cuff and a more flexible, anti-microbial midsole making it feel
and smell better after a long hike.
Super Manta M4
Take these boots to the top
of Mt. Ranier, or on an above-timberline backpacking trip where
you expect rough talus and steep snow fields. The upper is constructed
of a thick suede that resists abrasion while offering warmth
and support. A special waterproofing treatment performed at the
tannery and minimal seams ensure excellent water resistance.
New polyurethane sole technology gives the Vibram M4 sole a huge
weight reduction and incredible shock absorption. Plus, it will
accommodate step-in crampons. This one's for the hardy backpacker
looking to break into mountaineering, or vice versa.
Cerro Torre
This ultra-light and dexterous
boot can take any kind of mixed, moderate-angled terrain you
throw at it. Rugged trail? The Vibram M4 will protect your feet
from scree, without weighing you down. Ice gullies? The Cerro
Torre will accommodate any kind of crampon and almost any climbing
position. Although this boot is built on a technical last for
a precision fit, it also has flex zones at the ankle and the
back of the cuff for greater range of motion. WET ice gullies?
The upper is made with a thick, inside-out leather that keeps
the water-resistant side out of harm's way. Plus, it's impregnated
with HS12 silicone for the ultimate in protection from the elements.
Low-angle rock faces? The Megabyte toe rand helps you stick to
the rock, while increasing durability and water resistance. Whatever
your concern, this boot says, "No problema."
Cerro Torre Thermo (available Fall
'01)
Why not take this boot to discover
its namesake, the Cerro Torre in Patagonia? With a 200g Thinsulate
liner, it will be warm enough. And, because you might be spending
more time on your front points in this cold-weather version,
it's built with a stiffer, XT midsole. We hope you can stand
the suspence - the Cerro Torre Thermo won't be available
until Fall of 2001.
Freney
Scarpa-sponsored climber Will
Gadd recommends taking the Freney up the M9-rated "Power
to Burn" route in Canada's Icefields Parkway. Like a rock
shoe for winter, it's ideal for the brave new world of mixed
ice climbing. The asymetric last focuses power to your front
toe for climbing precision, while the upper affords surprising
flexiblilty and range of motion. The Vibram Bernina sole gives
great traction, and the Megabyte rubber rand gives great edging
and smearing. Your feet will be comfortable for hours of front-pointing
or standing in etriers, thanks to the rigid platform created
by the Pro Flex Plus midsole. But you won't die of pain on the
walk in, thanks to the overall comfort and flex of the boot.
Unlike the clunky, chunky plastic boots of yore, these water-proofed
suede numbers are sleak and light. Serve this sensitive, new-age
boot on ice, on the rocks, AND straight-up.
Backpacking
Delta M3
Like a faithful dog, the Delta M3 will beg you to take it on
after-work hikes in your local park and weekend backpacking trips
to more exotic locales. There's a lot to be said for the time-honored
- if somewhat painful - ritual of breaking in new leather hiking
boots. Leather is the original waterproof-breathable fabric and
it molds itself to the wearer's foot like a second skin without
losing its supportive characteristics. But, this is the third
millenium, and we're used to instant gratification. So, we've
padded the heck out of the inside, used a flexible midsole, and
added our unique E-last lacing system that constantly adjusts
pressure as you walk. The premium, silicone-treated and oiled
Nubuck leather upper resists both water and scuffing with equal
tenacity. And the dual-density Vibram M3 sole will keep you in
contact with Mother Earth while also absorbing much of the consequent
shock.
Delta/Delta Wide
If you want a more classic look
or have a wider than average foot, the original Delta is the
boot for you. It toes the line between day hiking and carrying
a heavy backpack on longer trips. This version has a loyal following
thanks to its streamlined design, sleak Plata leather upper,
moisture-wicking Cambrelle lining and durable-yet-flexible Skywalk
Compact sole. Because it has fewer bells and whistles than the
newer Delta M3, it's lighter on your foot - and on your pocketbook.
SL M3/SL M3 Wide
To navigate the 2,650-mile Pacific
Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada, you need a boot that can withstand
rough, varied terrain and heavier loads. The SL M3 is up to the
task. We've basically taken the Delta M3 and turned up the volume
with a stiffer, more supportive midsole and a thicker Sherpa
leather upper. In the desert sections you'll like the sweat-defying
Cambrelle lining, and in the wet Pacific Northwest you'll like
the water-defying silicone-treated leather. But even if only
shorter trips are in your future, the anatomic internal padding
and shock-absorbing Vibram M3 sole will provide you many miles
of happy trails.
Rio/Rio Narrow/Rio Wide
Imagine hiking the TK-mile Appalachian Trail fresh out of
college, then again after your kids are in school. Now imagine
doing that in the same pair of boots. Like the Maine-to-Georgia
trail itself, the Rio has withstood the test of time. The outside
stitching of the Norwegian welt construction gives the Rio a
retro look, while also allowing it to be re-soled again and again.
The steel shank provides enough stiffness to kick steps on a
snow-covered summit, and the welt construction accomodates a
walking crampon. The leather upper and Vibram sole are flexible
enough for comfortable hiking. And with three different widths,
and lengths in American sizing up to a men's 16, you can choose
the boot that fits your unique foot like a glove.
Concordia
At the base of K2 in the Himalayas,
two frozen rivers come together at a place called Concordia.
Your feet would be in Nirvana trekking there in a pair of Scarpa
Concordias, designed for hiking over varried terrain and carrying
medium loads (your porters will carry the rest). The oiled Nubuck
leather with HS 12 treatment fends off both water and abrasions.
And superior walking comfort is guaranteed by a pronounced rocker
profile in the Vibram Vinson sole, a Comfort Flex midsole, sculpted
internal padding, built-in flex zones, and a luxuriously soft
leather lining, the Concordia keep you walking in great comfort.
A rubber rand runs the length of the boot for a classic European
trekking look, and it is built on a higher-volume TA last, square
across the instep and in the front, like the typical Germanic
foot.
Cadore GTX
The Cadore GTX will keep your
feet dry from coast to coast, whether you're hiking on the rain-drenched
trails of Washington's TK islands, or commuting on foot through
snow-covered Manhattan. Made from a single piece of full-grain
Sherpa leather treated with HS12 silicone, the upper is both
stylish and naturally waterproof. A three-layer, seam-sealed
Gore-Tex liner creates a second defense against the liquid elements.
The Vibram Grinta sole sinks its teeth into mud and snow while
the Comfot Flex midsole bends enough for many miles of comfortable
walking.
Light Hiking
Vento
Just about any town in the country has a trail named Panorama
Point, or Riverfront. This is the footwear for those places,
whether they are steep, rocky ascents, or smooth, stroller-friendly
walkways. We've applied everything we know about high-performance
mountain boots to this lightweight and supremely flexible hiking
shoe. You can actually see the two, differently colored layers
in the sole: polyurethane inside for squelching shock and a hard
rubber with deep cleats outside for traction and underfoot protection.
Between the anti-stink insole, distinctive styling, and complementary
colors, you might find yourself wearing the Ventos all day long.
Vento Mid
When you need more protection
from rolling your ankles, or you just want a hiking boot look,
choose the Vento Mid. It has the exact same features as the Vento,
but with a higher cuff.
Vento Mid GTX (available Fall '01)
Our consumers kept telling us
they wished we made a lightweight hiking boot that was also completely
waterproof. Well, your wish is our command. In the fall of 2001,
just as the weather is getting cold and damp, the Gore-Tex Vento
Mid will arrive in stores. The Gore-Tex® liner keeps precipitation
out of the boot, but lets perspiration escape, too. The result:
drier, happier, warmer feet, for fast hikes on sloppy trails
or sloshy treks from car to grocery store.
Cinque Terre
Slip on a pair of Cinque Terres
to navigate the route from the trailhead to the base of TK (somewhere
in the Gunks?), a combination of easy strolling, steep hiking
up a slick trail, and hands-and-feet crawling over big boulders.
The most technical shoe in Scarpa's Light Hiking category, the
Cinque Terre laces to the toe like a rock shoe for a precision
fit, and has a clip-in loop for attaching to harness or pack.
The Vibram Tepui sole with a rubber toe bumper will let you edge
and smear while scrambling, without compromising walking comfort.
An EVA wedge under the heel absorbs shock, and the Cambrelle
lining absorbs sweat. With a stitched-on leather midsole, the
Cinque Terre can easily be re-soled, ensuring it will be with
you for many adventures to come.

Replacement Shoe Laces
Don't undermine the performance
of your superior Scarpa boots by replacing laces with just any
over-the-counter ones. Nylon woven laces, either round or flat
depending on boot. Multi-colored. The right length for the boot.
Range of sizes, based on model and actual boot size. Mini-speed
lace, round ones work better.
Footbeds TPF
Replace compressed or worn-out
insoles with our Transpiration Footbeds. Anatomically shaped,
cut to fit Scarpa boots, superb underfoot support, active carbon
to reduce odor, and wicking Cambrelle lining - what more could
you want?
Footbeds HSF
These high support footbeds
come in our ski boots, but are great for hikers and mountaineers
who need the extra support supplied by a harder rubber on the
bottom sandwiched with a softer, comfy foam next to your foot.
Trekking Poles
Access
You can't beat the price on these two-section poles with our
unique FlickLock system, lightweight and sturdy 7075 aluminum
shafts, and diamond-hard carbide tips. Maximum length is 140
cm for the tallest of trekkers.
Approach
Step up to the convenience of
a three-section pole for greater packability. The Approach is
still a great value with 7075 aluminum construction, FlickLock
joints, and carbide tips.
Advance
A softer, dual density grip
makes this three-section pole more comfortable in the hand. And
a corrective 15-degree angle in the upper shaft provides more
efficient hand placement. Hand straps are wider around the wrist
and taper in toward the grip where the rapid-adjust camming device
is hidden. No buckles at the wrist also means greater comfort.
Ascent
The three-section Ascent has
the works - including an incredible shock-absorbing system seated
in the grip, instead of in the shaft, to keep the weight of the
swing where it belongs. When you'd rather have precision than
spring, you can just switch the system off.
Whippet Trek
The Whippet Trek is like a security
blanket for anywhere a little slip could turn into a big slide
- glaciers, high peaks, or early season snow fields. Based on
Black Diamond's proven ice axe designs, the front teeth bite
into hardpack and the canard wing acts as a mini-fluke in softer
snow. The Whippet Trek can replace the top shaft of just about
any three-section 18-mm(?) diameter pole. And when self-evisceration
is more of a concern than self-arrest, the claw can be easily
replaced with a mild-mannered insert.
Accessories
Interchangeable Baskets
At the end of an uphill arm swing, perfectly round baskets can
act as a lever, making the tip lose purchase. With a serrated,
flat side, our asymmetric baskets bite into uphill surfaces,
whether snow, rock or dirt. With our interchangeable baskets,
you can replace lost trekking baskets or convert your summer
poles into winter ones with our larger Black Diamond baskets.
Replacement Carbide Tips
Say you jam your trekking pole
between two rocks on a speedy descent. Instead of breaking at
the bottom shaft, our poles are designed to snap off at the tip
under extreme torque. So, you can replace the tips easily with
the same carbide tips that go into all our trekking poles for
the best in durability and penetration in dirt, rock, ice, and
snow.
Sticky Rubber "Tech Grip"
Swap your current grips with
these ones that provide a secure hand-hold and insulation in
the cold. Grip that goes below the grip on the pole. Rubber tube,
slightly larger than upper shaft. 18mm. Take upper shaft off,
slide it on. Grab it below the traditional grip, still have precision.
For traverses uphill hand . Adjust poles once per day when skiing.
Quick adjustment hand position change.
Vinyl Tip Covers
Protect your other belongings
in a pack or a trunk with these tip covers with a steel washer
Contribute to erosion. Rubber think on end of cane. Carbide tip
not slippery. Tarp tent uses poles for set-up, need tip covers
to protect floor.
Gaiters
GTX FrontPoint Gaiter
It's spring. There's mud, snow and ice - some solid, some liquid,
most of it somewhere in-between. But none of it can get past
the barrier created by these snug-fitting mountaineering gaiters.
The two-layer Gore-Tex poses a double defense against moisture.
The contoured Velcro opening, anchored by a snap closure at the
toe and a drawcord at the top, and an adjustable strap under
the boot make the GTX FrontPoint Gaiters conform to your boot
and leg like shrinkwrap.
Sportee Gaiter
Whether it's sand in the Canyonlands
of Utah or a surprise snowfield on a fall peak summit, the Sportee
Gaiters will keep dust and snow out in nature, where they belong.
These hiking gaiters are so lightweight and packable, you'll
bring them with you everywhere.
Termigaiter 2
Ten inches of snow just dumped,
but you don't want half of those inches stuffed down your backcountry
ski boots. The Termigaiter 2 picks up where your bibs leave off
and your boots begin with Durastretch fabric a nylon and
Lycra weave that is stretchy, abrasion-resistant and waterproof.
A full Velcro opening gives easy access to boot buckles, while
gripper elastic completely encircles the ankle, creating a powder-proof
seal and preventing the gaiters from becoming upwardly mobile.
